AbstractUsing numerical and experimental analysis this paper examines the effect of reinforced steel bars on concrete resistivity measurements of cylindrical concrete core samples. Core sam- ples were modelled using COMSOL Multiphysics software to investigate the effect of rebar on concrete resistivity measurements. From the results obtained from the FE simulation, it has been found that rebar presence significantly decreases the resistivity readings. Rebar effect is influenced by factors such as electrode spacings and depth to the rebar from elec- trodes. Correction factors for different sized samples were obtained using FE simulation and correction chart was proposed to eliminate the effect of rebar on concrete resistivty measure- ments. Correction factors obtained from FE simulation were applied successfully to obtain the corrected resistivity values of the lOx20cm concrete samples which was tested in the lab- oratory. Furthermore, correction factors obtained from FE simulation were compared with the correction factors proposed by Morris et al. (l996) and Garzon et al. (2014).
