Abstract | Sometimes the damage caused to the non-structural components due to earthquakes is con- siderably high with compared to the structural components. The best example is the world- wide failure records of pre- cast concrete cladding panels during moderate to high seismic events. It was intended to minimize the damage caused to the cladding by considering the contribution of the stiffness of the cladding assembly to the overall stiffness of the struc- ture. In order to minimize damage and maximize structural performance metallic yielding dampers were incorporated with the design. Comparison between the conventional and current design approaches was conducted for varying damper properties to derive the best combination. |
