Abstract | The purpose of this research is to investigate if and how the Yield management (YM) techniques can be applied for hoteliers working in the newly emerging economy of Vietnam. First, a brief overview of the hotel industry in Vietnam is given which segments the supply market into three major sub-sectors: joint-venture or foreign-own hotels, state-owned hotels and small private hotels. Several conditions facilitating and inhibiting YM implementation are identified. A sample of hotels from each sector is then chosen in Hochiminh City and Hanoi for analyzing the current yield management practice. The study emphasizes the differences in YM awareness, implementation levels and applicability among the three sub-sectors. A step-by-step strategy is then proposed for hotels in different sub-sectors to adopt the techniques in order to improve their chance of survival in the volatile and competitive market in Vietnam. |
