AbstractEnergy analysis for a beam daylighting system of a demonstration room which has gabled attic and plenum located at Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand) belonging to tropic area is presented. To predict heat flux of roof, ceiling and plenum wall, mathematical heat transfer models for case of with daylighting as well as without daylighting based on steady state heat transfer were developed. In the models, radiation heat exchange is separately treated. The predicted surface temperature and heat flux show a reasonable agreement with the results from experimental measurements. These models are useful for evaluating heat transfer through building envelop and heat gain associated with similar beam daylighting system under varying climates. Heat transfer through building envelop is a dynamic complex process. It varies with many climate parameters. One of them is sky temperature which still has not a widely accepted and applicable expression for it. Formula for determining sky temperature were established in this study.
