AbstractIsolating the architectural precast concrete cladding panels from the real structure, this process can be helped to decrease the interaction with the supporting structure in terms to min- imize the damages caused by earthquakes. An energy dissipating cladding system can perform as a structural brace, as well as a source of energy dissipation system. Stiffness and damping are the main important factors in a steel structure. These two factors can be added to the EDCS designing criteria. This study mainly focused on spandrel types of cladding sys- tem since many current structures are preferred to design for a large space above the cladding system for the window arrangement and for economic benefits. 20-story steel structure was chosen for this study with different type of properties. ETABS software was used to de- sign the structure. The building was analyzed by subjecting them to seven earthquakes as Kern Country, San Fernando, Imperial Valley, Lorna Prieta, Cape Mendocino, Northridge and Landers. Performance of the damper with EDCS was analyzed using their response in terms of story drift, displacement, shear and acceleration.
