AbstractIn this research, an examination of the likely impacts of different learning mechanisms on the development . of different types of technological capability has been studied. To facilitate the examination, a model has been developed on the basis of a synthesis of literature. The model attempts to explain how different learning mechanisms can contribute towards the development of various types of technological capabilities. The proposed model has been applied to investigate the process of technological capability development in two selected manufacturing organizations in Vietnam. In these studies, initially, the appraisal of technological capability is conducted. Afterwards, an evaluation is made of the strength of the various learning mechanisms in the organization. An attempt is then made to elicit a relationship between the level of technological capability development and strength of different types of learning mechanisms. The findings from the case studies suggest that the model has good explanatory power. Suggestions are then made for further refining and improving the model.
