Abstract | Over the past forty years, leasing has evolved from a manufacturer's selling technique into a specialized financial service, extended from United States to Europe and Japan, and it has since been spreading through developing countries. By 1994, leasing had been established in more than eighty countries, including over fifty developing economies. In Vietnam, up to 1996, the leasing business still was quite new for production films. However, its appearance became one of first solutions to bring the economy growing fast passing the current financing limitations. This study is an attempt to determine the opportunity of developing leasing business for solving the difficulties in investing and modernizing technology at production firms, particularly at Seaprodex Corporation. Focusing on the above goal, a conceptual framework was created through three levels of analysis: firstly, an overview of the benefits and practices of leasing business in the world; secondly, Ho Chi Minh City's economy with the demand of machinery and equipment investment, the advantages and obstacles in developing leasing business; thirdly, the case study of Seaprodex Corporation with the necessity to attend leasing business. The second and third levels are carried out in the supplement of survey and direct interview. The study reveals a large demand of equipment investment, that has not been satisfied due to the limitations of actual financing, is waiting for the financing by leasing. Considering the experiences of neighboring countries, actual demand and particular economic condition of the city, the study proposed a general strategy for exploiting and developing the leasing business opportunity. And then, a special strategy for future leasing company of Seaprodex Corporation has been also formed to it together with the corporation maintain their leading role in fishery industry. Based on the findings, the further studies on capital investment resources, forming the project, building the marketing strategy, etc. would be welcome to support positively making decisions in leasing business. |
