AbstractTwo types of rice bran, namely white rice bran and parboiled rice bran, were used for oil extraction. Optimum extracting conditions were determined with hexane, subcritical C02 and supercritical C02. Ratio of hexane: rice bran was 90 ml: 2 gram when using Soxtec extract machine. Optimum pa1ticle size was 0.125 mm. For parboiled rice bran, maximum yield as high as 26.01 % was obtained at temperatme of 140 °C, 4 hours. White rice bran had highest oil yield (21.74%) at 140 °C, 5 hours. Extraction model shows that white rice bran has slower extracting rate than parboiled rice bran. Optimum extraction temperature for subcritical C02 was 35 °C, when pressure fixed at 55 bar, with maximum yield being 16.08% after 8 hours of extraction. Optimum temperatme and pressure for supercritical C02 was 65 °C and 300 bar. Extraction time is sh01tened to only 2 hours. 17 .27% of rice bran oil was obtained at optimum condition. Rice bran oil extracted by subcritical C02 and supercritical C02 have higher quality in flavor and color. Acid value of subcritical C02 and supercritical C02 is close to refined oil. a tocopherol content in oil product that were extracted with subcritical C02 and supercritical C02 were lower than crude oil extracted with commercial hexane, but much higher than refined oil.
