AbstractThis paper represents the meteorological drought analysis for Myitnge river basin. Drought analysis usually involves characterizing drought severity, duration and intensity. The objective of this study is to estimate the spatial distribution and change in drought characteristics over time due to climate change by employing the criterion of Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI). A wide range of monthly precipitation data from October 1986 to October 2016 is used for the assessment. For the spatial characteristics of drought, SPI is calculated for 20 observatories in basin using Drought Index Calculator (DrinC). The computation of SPI series is performed for intermediate and long-time scales i.e, 3, 6 and 12 months. Such a series is fitted to a probability distribution, which is then transformed into a normal distribution. The drought severity, duration and intensity are also estimated.
