Abstract | This thesis study presents an attempt to develop knowledge base for stretch blow molding using artificial intelligence. The general principle of stretch blow molding is easy to describe. However putting the principle into practice requires considerable knowledge and skill that is difficult and sometimes impossible to find in a single human expert. A knowledge based expert system is proposed to overcome this problem. A knowledge base system is a computerized model that composed of analytical, empirical and heuristic algorithm. This advisory system is an alternative of human expertise that will help in decision making for the selection of plastic resin, mold material, design of product and preform and resin processing. A generalized rule based knowledge base has been developed for stretch blow molding system with a special emphasis on the resin polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The knowledge acquisition has been done from experts in the domain, textbooks, technical papers, database, reports, and real design and processing industry. The acquired knowledge has been organized by tree structure in seven different module. This knowledge base system is based on production rules where both declarative and heuristic knowledge have been used. There are approximately 200 production rules in the knowledge base and a data driven forward chaining has been used as searching strategy. |
