AbstractThis study aims at enhancing the productivity of Udayapur Cement Industry Limited (UCIL) situated at Udayapur district of Nepal. It has been found that there has been no attempt to measure the productivity of the company so far. Literature review suggests that productivity program characterised by four formal phases namely, measurement, evaluation, planning and productivity, is very beneficial to a company to improve its productivity. The elements of Sumanth's Total Productivity Model have been defined to suit with UCIL. The total productivity and paitial productivity of the company in different months have been measured by applying the model. From the results of the model, it has been found that the company has very poor performance in most of the times. So, management of the company must be conscious to the productivity program. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has been applied to get relative efficiency of the company in different months considering each month as a decision making unit (DMU). Aggregate technical and scale efficiency, and (pure) technical efficiency have been obtained from CCR model and BCC model respectively. Targets have been set to make the relatively inefficient units efficient. The outcome of DEA can be used as a tool for control and evaluation of past accomplishments as well as a tool to aid in planning future activities.
