AbstractDue to requirements of large amount of capital, higher production efficiency and a long term constraint of rebuilding, it is important to study the facility layout problem (F.L.P.). Tre F .L.P. problem with both qualitative and quantitative criteria has been widely and continuously researched in many articles and proceedings, nevertheless a proper analytical m'odel for the multicriteria machine layout problem is considered worthy to be further studied. The objectives of this study are to combine both quantitative and qualitative criteria into an analytical model with a proper transformation constant for the bi-directional loop flow type machine layout in a cell and utilize heuristic approaches like simulated annealing algorithm to derive an acceptable suboptimal layout solution. This study also carries out a sensitivity test on the simulated annealing algorithm parameters and finally implements an exercise based on the study result for a modified case of company GGT.
