AbstractThe thesis is concerned with the vehicle routing and scheduling problem in a container inland transportation company in N01thern Vietnam. Two type of vehicles are used to carry containers in a system of one port, one inland depot, and a large number of customers. Routing and scheduling trailers have to be done on a daily basic, under the constrains of loading or discharging time of customers. The distances between locations and the daily transported containers with their sizes, locations, directions are given. The matching which is the proposed methodology instead of the classical routing and scheduling problem, since it is restricted to route at most two customers in one tour. The objective of matching containers is to maximise saving that can be obtained by matching them. LINDO package and SAS/OR package are used to solve the corresponding model formats of the binary program of matching model. The PASCAL programs have been written to enter the daily containers, determine the savings of container matched pairs and generate the LP models. When we use the HLINDO package, the PAS CAL program also triggers the package to solve and generate the final schedule table in few seconds
