Abstract | Spare parts management is concerned with the planning, implementation and control of the movement of physical objects and the associated information. For this study, the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation was chosen to be the typical reference. This study has focused on two parts. The first part is to develop a spare parts inventory control system. Inventory control keeps the stock keeping item at the optimum levels for minimizing the sum of total inventory costs. It is obvious that an inventory item's lead time is affected by the length of the lead time as well as the actual demand during time. In this paper spare parts are classified into vital, essential, and desirable and suitable models are suggested for each class of items. The second part of this study is to develop a computerized information system to manage the spare parts inventory. All databases are written to solve the relevant problems. It is necessary to get the user's expectation. Before designing the spare parts management application, the existing system is investigated in term of data and information flow and the system requirements are surveyed. The proposed system is designed to set up EOQ and ROP to assist decision making. It also designed to process daily activities of spare parts and produce managerial reports. The system can be implemented on a PC ( 486 DX) using Microsoft Access software. |
