AbstractThis study compares two methods for testing seismic waves: seismic cone penetration test (SePT) and downhole seismic test (DHT). The main objective of this research is to assess the reliability and consistency of the SePT and to find the correlation between the two tests. The study take place Asian Institute of Technology near Bangkok city, in the central Thai- land. Both of the tests are carried out simultaneously to eliminate any rise of errors due to external influencing factors in variations while comparing the results, such as surrounding disturbance and weather conditions. Both primary wave (P-wave) and shear wave (S-wave) is measured. Geophones placed orthogonal to each other are incorporated into the penetrom- eter and tested by pseudo-interval testing. On comparison between the waves obtained from both SePT and DHT, the average consistency was about 95% for S-wave and abut 97% for P-wave. This proves the reliability of SePT test. Furthermore, a correlation was developed between S-wave and SPT N which gave the following relationship of V=64.4 ·NO.38 which was consistent with other empirical results from several other studies.
