AbstractRadio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies as the name suggest is used to identify radio waves. The biggest advantage of RFID lies in the fact that they can transmits information wirelesly by using radio waves, a type of electromagnetic wave. This property is being used for tracking devices such as in machine automation, keeping count of animals in farms. A automatic tollbooth gate prototype is made in this project with the help of a passive RFID technology. The read range required was 3-5 m and was achieved using YR 8001 RFID reader module and passive RFID tags. The reader also has an attached antenna which is linearly polarized. The system is working at ultra high frequency (UHF) spectrum. The testing of the system was done by talking a bicycle instead of a car. The barrier gate used was a foam cutout attached to the 5 V servo motor. An assumption was taken that only one tag would be coming at a time such that the reader will only have to read one tag at a time. With these limitations the testings were done by taking 1 tag, 2 tags and 3 tags. For 1 tag, only single tag was taken and the testings were done with authorized and unauthorized card. For the 2 tags test, 2 tags were lined one after the other in a straight line. This test was done by talking several combinations with authorized and unauthorized tags. Lastly, 3 tags test which was similar to 2 tags test except that in this 3 tags were taken instead of two. All the test results came out to be conclusive with the theory.
