AbstractThis report presents a series of density based quality control tests that were perform in a trial field section as part of highway construction project in Thailand. The compaction quality of the compacted soil fill embankment was evaluated using density based approach using Thailand Department of Highways in compaction tests such as soil density gauge (SDG) and Sand Cone test. Densities and moisture contents determined from the SDG were compared with the data from oven dried moisture method. The effects of compaction, effect of moisture content, different devices and density based quality control methods were dis cussed when interpreting the results. Finally, the proposed criteria for implementing density based and compaction quality control testing for pavement construction in Thailand were recommended.
