AbstractThe flood situation in Thailand becomes more serious each year in terms of its severity, duration and size of area affected. In pa1ticular the flooding inl 995 in and around Bangkok is considered the worst since big flood in 1983, causing a lot of damage to the social and economic development of the immediate area as well as the country as a whole. Government agencies have urgent need of reliable and timely information as to the extent and severity of flood as an aid to improving their management and mitigation activities. This information is often difficult to obtain over such a large area and Remote Sensing and GIS are expected to yield significant improvements in this regard. This paper presents results that fuses optical and microwave acquired data and integrates this with a GIS, to study inter-annual dynamics at the height of flood across a three-year period from October 1993. This period includes dry, intermediate and very wet flood conditions. The information developed in this study enables flood risk assessment and results of landuse and flood classification and GIS integration are presented.
