AbstractThere are many distresses in flexible pavements such as fatigue cracking, block cracking, edge cracking and rutting. This paper concentrates and evaluates rutting in flexible pavements. There are many methods to evaluate rutting and this paper is focused on the high temperature indirect tensile strength test, which is an easy, effective and cheap method to evaluate the rutting resistance of flexible pavements. In this paper, 14 mixtures were tested taking three samples from each, thus testing the IDT strength for 42 samples altogether. The rutting resistances of these mixtures were then categorized according to the relationship between the HT-IDT values and rut resistance. Moreover, how the main test factors of HT-IDT strength test differs from the standard IDT strength test is further discussed and evaluated in this paper.
