Abstract | Traffic is a major issue when considering the problems of the whole world. This results in wasting time as well as money of all travelers. To measure the traffic, people have made indices to identify the traffic congestion in countries as well as cities with several conditions. These indices are helpful to identify the level of congestion and to create awareness to reduce the congestion. Even though the available indices have several drawbacks, this report consists 7 major traffic congestion indexes with necessary details and comparison of the indices from the existing congestion indices. These seven indices are Tom Tom Traffic Index (TTTI), NUMBEO Index, Texas Traffic Index (TTI), INRIX Traffic Index, Shanghai Traffic Index, Beijing Traffic Index and Navinfo Traffic Index. The distribution and comparison results are shown by using ArcGIS software. Some of the main, highly compatible parameters are compared by a table and provide some necessary information also. This paper includes maps, the distributions of all indexes separately as well as a combination of all seven indexes. Further, the 2016 and 2017 data of TomTom Traffic index data are compared in this paper and the distributions are shown in four main ranges separately as well as together. This paper shows the variation of traffic index in Bangkok in comparison to the world highest congested city, Mexico, in 2017. There is one application that done to the Colombo city in Sri Lanka in this paper using the concept of Texas index. Finally, the results of the application in Sri Lanka are also shown in this paper. |
