AbstractThe purpose of this study is to demonstrate the applications of an integrated spatial and statistical analysis, GIS and Remote sensing for Urban/Rural Dynamics in case study of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand. The Satellite imagery data of LandsatS-TM in 1991, 1994 and 1996 were used to interpret land use/cover change in spatial and different of time. This study presents a methodology of integration of digital image processing with raster GIS modelling and statistical analysis for urban/rural Dynamics. The result of classified images overlaying is called Multitemporal Dynamics Image (.MDI) that based on natural boundary. The number of the overlaying classified images are a large one that it is difficul~ and more complex to analyzes in each class which limited of time. Therefore, the statistical analysis was important and necessary to be applied for Urban/Rural Dynamics Analysis by integrating Remote sensing and GIS. In this study Hierarchical Cluster Analysis was used. The four most important land use categories after using clustering approach are Built-up area, Rural Area, Forest and Environmental area. Overall of change in Nakhon Ratchasima province is convert rural area into built-up area that increasing. Rural area changed to different types of crop and scrub area. The results of this study discover the area is dominated of this province is agricultural land. Due to limitation of time, this study was analysed only rural area to study the dynamics behaviour of the area by using Hierarchical Cluster Analysis. Clustering methods was used statistics characteristic of the area, multi temporal dynamics class, to analyze the dynamics of the spatial as natural boundary. The results of dynamics behaviour was dominated by rural area is convert into built-up area. Integration of Remote Sensing ans GIS techniques and Statistical Approach is found to be a very effective tool for Urban/Rural Dynamics through this study. However, the further study is necessary to complete the method that can be applied effectively in time and cost.
