AbstractThis paper presents and compares the results from a series of in situ modulus-based compaction control tests that were conducted during construction of a part of highway construction project in Thailand. Three alternative modulus-based devices were used. The lightweight deectometer (LWD), the dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP), and the soil stiness gauge (SSG) were conducted in companion with the moisture-density tests. This was done to find the effects of the moisture content and dry density on the modulus of the soil. The measured modulus value correlated poorly to the soil density gauge dry density and moisture content from both SDG and laboratory.
