AbstractHabitat fragmentation and deforestation due to the construction of transportation elements such as roads, railways, bridges, etc. cause lots of adverse impacts to the environment and it will ultimately affect to the animal mortality. Wildlife crossing structures (eg: overpasses and underpasses) are built in order to minimize these negative impacts. These structures are being constructed in all over the world in order to protect the animals. Main purpose of this study is the designing of an overpass using precast concrete which was developed at its nano scale. The motive is to reduce the cost as well as the impacts to the environment and also to enhance the material properties such as permeability, durability and self-healing. The overpass is designed to be an arch where the soil embankment and animal path are constructed on the top and the analysis was done by mean of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and using sap2000 version 18. The parameter study was conducted for materials, thickness and for the configuration. The landscape of the overpass was also considered and provide in a way where natural conditions of light, temperature and rainfall is maintained. It is identified that a three-hinged arch constructed using Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) with a yield strength of 600ksc gives the most optimistic characteristics. The 3D model for the overpass is developed by using Google SketchUp.
