AbstractBentonite is the widely used additives to the cement water grout to enhance the grout prop- erties as per requirement. Bentonite is about three times expensive than cement. So, opti- mization in amount of bentonite is economically beneficial. This report presents the effect of different ratio of overnight soaked and un-soaked Thailand bentonite on bentonite-cement-water grouts on basis of unconfined compressive strength, sedimentation and flow time. The bentonite is added to the cement and water grout, as percentage by weight of cement and water. The optimum ratio of bentonite cement grout is assessed. The water to cement ratio from 1 to 1.33 and bentonite percentage 3 to 9, the use of soaked bentonite has the larger positive effect on sedimentation and flow time in comparison to the unsoaked bentonite with the increase in amount of bentonite. The use of soaked bentonite reduces the strength to some extent ranging from 0.5 Mpa to 1.5 Mpa due to reduction in sedimentation and subsequent reduction of density.
