AbstractMany researchers have studied many techniques to resist several loads to the constructionfor many purposes. In this study, diagonal braces and friction dampers are attached to theframes as the structural components of the frames to resist earthquake loadings. Two dif-ferent methods are applied to the five-story frame, ten-story frame and twenty-story steelframes. These frames are assumed to being constructed in the region of California and beingaffected by the large earthquake, Lorna Prieta, San Fernando and Northridge. The four pa-rameters, story displacement, story drift, story shear and story acceleration were comparedby choosing each optimum slip load for different story numbers and different earthquakes inthis analyt- ical study. Additionally, the most resistant shape of bracing were selected amongdifferent shapes of bracing, diagonal shaped, chevron shape and V shaped bracings. Afteranalysis and comparison of many modeling frames in ETABs, friction damper with diagonal bracing has the lowest reduction of story responses at most 10 times of chevron bracing andat most 4 times of V-shaped bracing.
