Abstract | A pedestrian crossing is one of the most important components of a road way in any country. It is of paramount importance that it should be installed and maintained in order to obtain the maximum benefit. The warning sign installed before the crosswalk is a main component in reducing the dangers that pedestrians and drivers face on or near crosswalks. It should be installed in a particular distance from the crosswalk so that the drivers can see them and make a response. This research assessed the effect of crosswalk ahead warning sign on the driver in the Katugastota- Kurunegala road section. The response of the drivers was measured by the speed reduction on approaching the cross walk and the opinions and the knowledge level of the drivers were measured by a questionnaire survey.
