AbstractThere are number of earthquakes happening all around the world. Most of the times dam- ages are caused by failure of man-made structures. Energy dissipation devices have become famous for dissipate input energy to the structures because of earthquakes. One of the old- est and famous approach is dissipate energy by using Metallic Yielding Dampers (MYD). Bracing configurations are needed to add these dampers to structures. Main purpose of this study is to identify optimum damper among available dampers by comparing performance of Concentrically Braced Frames (CBFs) with and without damper. And also this study is used to identify best performing bracing configuration among diagonal, V and chevron. Five, ten and twenty story steel frames are designed and apply Northridge, San Fernando and Lorna Pierta time histories. ETABS software is used to analysis and designing of frames. Effective stiffness and Yield force values of previous researchers are used and increase the number of plates by equations proposed by by them. Uniform distribution method throughout the storys are used to optimize dampers. Adding MYDs increased performance than CBF with- out MYD. From comparison between different bracing configurations, it is identified that chevron bracing configuration has improved the responses of the frame more than diagonal and V-bracing. It is also found that V-bracing has least performance and diagonal bracing has performance in between chevron and V-bracing.
