AbstractThis thesis provides a performance analysis for real-time data transfer using iĀ·eal-time protocol (RTP) on the Internet. Real-time application performance can be described by four parameters: throughput, loss, delay and jitter. Experiments were set up to measure the impact of the network capacity, and the VDO encoding rates on the four performance parameters. The results of these experiments provide a deeper understanding of the interrelationships of all the parameters involved. It was found that the speed of the CPU is significant to the performance of the application. In addition, it was found that one performance parameter, jitter, cound be also created due to the two performance parameters loss and delays. Besides, it was found that the transmission medium impacted only on delay.
