AbstractA timing synchronization process for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) systems given by (Schmidl & Cox, 1997) and modified by using (Minn, Zeng, & Bhargava, 2000) over AWGN and frequency selective channel is presented. By the usage of training symbols as preamble, the presence of signal is detected and the timing offset is estimated. Furthermore, fractional frequency offset is calculated and synchronized. Then, the timing synchronization is performed. The simulation results show the effects of AWGN and frequency selective channels on our synchronization algorithms. In frequency selective channels, the timing estimate is incorrectly calculated and a correction scheme is presented for both burst and continuous mode transmission.
