AbstractStructures are susceptible for lateral deformations during severe earthquakes. Higher the magnitude of the earthquake, higher the energy release for the structure. Arrival of energy dissipation units took place as a solution of resisting seismic loads for structures as an accu- rate measure. The horizontal forces developed during a severe earthquake can be resisted by a deliberate layout of braces in a steel frame. A metallic yielding based device that is known as a buckling restrained brace (BRB) and an inventive compression free energy device (CFD) was developed because of the comprehensive efforts put in developing the bracing systems. BRB is a concrete filled steel tube encased by a core plate which has the ability to prevent the buckling and which has an immense restoration quality. It can display a reliable and a stable hysteric conduct in an elastic-plastic range without buckling by yielding under compression and tension forces. cam-grip device, where the steel core is to be clamped when the structure is in a tensile loading and allowing the steel core to move freely when the structure is in a compression loading. This CFD has the ability to illuminate a reliable and a stable behavior in non-linear range without failing under tension. CFD is not good as much as a BRB but it can be considered for the installment in a structure considering various other aspects.
