Abstract | Response of rock to tunnel excavations in various tunnels of the Lam Ta Khong Pumped Storage Project was studied. Quality of rock mass exposed at the tunnel face was classified using the RMR and EPDC classifacation. Rock mass classification of tunnels around the Powerhouse could predict from RMR system, good to fair rock was 1 encountered at the upper part of Powerhouse (>EL 200.0), but it was poor to fair at the lower part. In the middle part of Powerhouse, rock will be good quality sandstone. Rock mass properties, rock load, self supporting span and stand-up time could be estimat~d. The comparison between EPDC system and RMR system was determined from rock mass classification results of all tunnels. Field observation was done to identify type of ground response that occurred, especially in problem areas. The predominant ground responses in shallow tunnels were loosening, however effect of groundwater caused instability problem in some tunnels. As for deep tunnel, loosening occurred due to geological condition. Stress slabbing occurred around tunnel perimeter and increased with depth. Time-dependent and delay fracturing could occur due to several factors. Strength of siltstone could weaken due to slaking behavior, it could not be left open without shotcrete cover. Comparison Modulus of rupture of SJ."RS were rather low when compared to the typical SFRS performance specification from ACI Shotcrete Compilation 18. |
