Abstract | Supporting of dampers in the structures can be seen widely nowadays. There are various types of Dampers in the world. Viscous Fluid damper, Viscoelastic damper, Friction damper and Yielding damper are mostly used in the structures. Fluid Viscous Dampers are among top passive energy devices used for seismic retorting of structures. The placement of damper in the building is very important. Therefore, this study provides insights to optimal placement of dampers with respect to the bracing configurations and damping coefficient distribution. Placement of dampers at different location is also considered in this study with sensitivity analysis. The bracing configurations of Chevron, and Diagonal systems are compared in a 10 and 20 storied basis. Thus the implementation of Viscous Fluid Dampers in Chevron arrangement proves to provide better seismic retorting for all the frame types, highlighting the performance of Chevron bracing with Viscous Fluid Damper is better than Diagonal bracing. |
