AbstractThe lattice model, representing structural member as an assembly of truss elements, is considered successfully to predict the shear carrying capacity, particularly in the shear resisting mechanism of simple beams under point loading. In this study, it is further applied to more complicated structural members; such as knee frames, simple beams under uniformly distributed load, and continuous beams. The experimental results of these structural members are used to verify the validity of the analytical ones. The modification of the lattice modelling of beams under uniform load is proposed using Kani's shear span concept. The arch member in the modelling of uniformly loaded beams is positioned at the simluated shear span a = l/4 and downward to the suppo1t point. It is found that the improvement gives very good agreements between the experimental results and the analytical results. The analytical study rep01ted in this research has shown conclusively that the lattice model is able to predict the ultimate capacity of various types of structural concrete in the scope of this study and to provide also the understanding in the internal shear resisting mechanism.
