| Abstract | This research is an attempt to propose the appropriate criteria for selection of two
aspects in implementing EDI (Electronic Data Interchange). The criteria were formulated for
selection of EDI communication means and EDI third patty networks. The result of this
research provides frameworks assisting EDI adopters in assessing and selecting
communication means and third patty networks which are appropriate to their needs.
A field survey was conducted to obtain information from both the existing EDI users
and potential EDI adopters to assess their opinion on factors affecting the selection. To deliver
effective frameworks, the survey included information obtained from EDI service providers, as
well.
Findings from the study revealed that commercial third party network is the most
preferred means for its effective and convenient communication. Direct link means basically
serves communication among affiliates. EDI on Internet is recognized for its low cost and
global reach.
Nearly all firms are served by third party networks selected by their trading pattners.
Their opinions on criteria for evaluation EDI third party networks are service boundary,
network security, technical issue, support services, costs, maintenance, qualification, and
additional services.
Finally, the study proposes frameworks for the selection of EDI communication means
and third party networks. |
