AbstractCruise control system has become a most important part of a vehicle in terms of safety of the vehicle. The attempt to develop an adaptive cruise control system is a step beyond the traditional cruise control systems. In this project an adaptive cruise control system has been designed and developed for a robot car which can slow down or stop based on a pre-defined distance with the speed of a vehicle or object moving in front of the vehicle. If the path is clear the car can travel at a set speed. The program was done using Matlab programming on PID controller and IR sensor has been used to measure the object in front of the vehicle. The car has been successfully tested in the lab environment as well as outside on the road with real vehicle.
