AbstractIn the industrial environment, it is vital to keep workshops clean and tidy. The workers should have the discipline to return everything back to their original locations after a par- ticular task is finished. For example, with the workload in factory workshops, if the people working there has to spend extra time to locate the tools, it will decrease the efficiency of the workshops drastically. Because humans are very difficult to train and they usually don’t have the habit of returning something back to their original space, it is vital to have a robot take care of the returning of tools to their respective places after a particular task is complete. In this project, the use of image processing with the help of a robot arm is used to rectify this problem. When the work at a particular workstation is complete, the tools should be placed at the center of the workspace where the camera will have full visibility of the entire tool. The tools are detected and its center coordinates are located with the help of image processing. From the pixel count, the tool is recognized. Then via serial communication, a data array will be sent from openCV to arduino which will convert the pixel values to steps and the arm will proceed to the location of the tool center. Stepper motors enable the motion in the x and y axes and servo motors are used to lift and lower the electromagnet which picks the tool and places it in the appropriate tool rack which in this case is placed at the back of the workstation.
