AbstractThis study presents the model for scheduling mold machining process which concerns with a job shop manufacturing system. Presently, the planner plans the schedule which does not follow any scientific method for scheduling purposes. The problems are resulted into machine idle time and over load on some machines. The objective of this study is to minimize makespan, improve machine utilization and code computer program for the use of the model. The Giffler and Thompson algorithm with alone SPT or MWKR dispatching rule is considered and modified to solve the problems. The algorithm is modified because the machine group in the company consists of some identical machines which can be considered as the parallel machines. The parallel machine steps are created and added into the algorithm for using in this case. The comparison between the results from the algorithm and the existing procedure shows that the makespan is reduced and machine utilization is improved by using the algorithm. It means that the use of the algorithm is better than the use of the existing procedure for finding an optimal schedule.
