Abstract | High speed position control system is found to be used in many systems nowadays. Designing and building products using Mechatronics principles needs to employ an integrated approach for designing each of the subsystems so that the resulting product is superior in functionality, reliability and cost effective. In this research project, the Mechatronics concepts have been used for designing and building a PLC-based High-speed Motion Control System. The objectives of the study are to design a high speed, accurate and programmable position system, to use PLC as a controller for a servo system, to apply control theory in motion control system and to apply simulation for simulating the system. The system is the high speed position control system, more attention have been paid on constructing the XY table with X,Y positioners, motors, sensors and defi ning the control algorithm to control the position of the moving object fast and accurately. For designing the system, various types of system components and different control methodologies have been investigated. Further study can be conducted in such areas as animating the system, Fuzzy control systems, CNC-based systems. The project is supported by SIEMENS, almost all of the system components are from SIEMENS so there has been a brief review about such things as SIMA TIC S7, SfNUMERJK, SIMODRIVE. Control theory is necessary as the base for designing any control system then there ha s been a review about some basic concepts, some basic controllers such as PIO, lead-lag compensation and some important points about Digital control system such as designing, simulating, structuring as well as implementating a Digital control system. With the knowledge from the literature review, a methodology has been developed as a guideline for designing the PLC-based system starting with the hardware design then controller design. Five control algorithms have been used to design the controller with the objective of satisfying the system performance specifications. They would be compared with each other then finally the best would be chosen. MATLAB ha s been used as a powerfully helpful tool to simulate the system under design. The CNC-based system as an area of further study has also been conducted with such parts as system hardware design and controller optimization. |
