Abstract | Since the Vietnamese Government shifted fi'om centrally planned to market economy in 1986, more than a half of State-owned enterprises have been closed down because of losing the State subsidy and not capable to cope with the fast changing environment. Trang An Candy Export Company (TAC), like any other State-owned enterprises that survived the test, has been left with no choice but to undergo drastic change in order to be competitive and strategically fit. Hence, the problem of designing an appropriate change strategy has become urgent and crucial for the company. This study deals with developing a change strategy for Trang An Candy Export Company. It starts with an exhaustive review of literature together with a series of individual interviews which provide the needed data for the strategic analysis process. Subsequently, an external and internal analysis is carried out to identify the opportunities and threats, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of TAC given the market situation in which it is operating. Based on the results of this analysis, a range of alternatives for competitive strategies was developed and recommended to the company. |
