| Abstract | Joint ventures are increasingly being used as strategic organizational form in international as
well as domestic businesses. When creating and launching a joint venture, conflicts and
problems among partners are unavoidable, carefully managing conflicts during negotiation and
launch stages plays a key role in the subsequent success of the joint ventures.
By examining the process of forging Auto Alliance (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (a joint venture between
Ford and Mazda and their respective local partners, KPN Group and Sukosol & Mazda Co.,
Ltd.) and Thai Maxell Electric Co., Ltd., the research study aims to identify and analyze the
conflicts and problems as well as their resolutions, and try to suggest a model of problemsolving and conflict-resolution.
It was found out that clearly identifying and effectively managing the conflicts during
negotiation and launch stages of joint venture results in the joint venture's smooth transition to
operational stage and gives it a better chance of success.
A conflict management model was developed as a result of the research case study which are
helpful for firms wishing to pursue a joint venture internationally and domestically to identify
the conflicts and solve them. |
