AbstractThe computer networks and database systems have been growing rapidly. In this environment, it is important to share data among different autonomous database systems. So, there is a need for building integrated database systems from various possibly heterogeneous and autonomous database systems that are already operational. Building integrated system involves schema integration which defines the global schema describing all the data in various existing databases. This schema provides the unified interface to the existing databases participating in the integration. A case study is done in integrating four autonomous database systems in AIT using the integration rules provided in the literature. A unified interface: the global query service system that make use the global schema has been developed and partly implemented. The mapping strategy is also presented and applied by the system in the course of query processing. With this unified interface, the user can get the information from different databases without knowing which databases would contain the required information.
