AbstractThe research study attempts to show the practical aspect of working capital management in Sri Lankan manufacturing companies. The information used in this research study was gathered through questionnaires and interviews with chief financial officers of leading manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka. The study also relies on companies annual reports, functional reports, internal publications, and industry related journals. The study identifies practical aspects of working capital management policies, management of working capital components, and controlling and planning of working capital in private sector manufacturing companies. In the area of management of working capital components, the study is limited to the management of cash, receivables, inventory, and working capital funds. Finally, the study identifies some areas of concern to both the manufacturing companies and the banking sector for creating a favorable environment to the development of working capital management in Sri Lanka.
