AbstractBreaking out of population, increasing industrial activities and vehicular traffic have led to a dramatic increase in the use of traditional and fossil fuels and have caused a substantial deterioration of air quality in Vietnam. The Model for Energy Demand Evaluation (MEDEE-S) is a long-term final energy demand simulation model for developing countries, which was designed and implemented by the Institute of Energy Policy and Economic (IEPE) of the University of Grenoble, France and further developed by Energy Planning Central Consultant Team (EPCCT), AIT, Bangkok has been successfully used in various developing countries of Asia for calculation and forecasting final energy consumption. The study Designed the Environmental Module (EVN), and linked this module with the MEDEE-S model to set up a one of functions of MEDEE-S/ENV model - the function for calculation and long-term forecasting of air pollution from final energy consumption. The study calculates and forecasts the emissions of key air pollutant i.e. Carbon dioxide (CO2), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Sulfur oxides (SOx), methane (CH4), total suspended particulate (TSP), Hydrocarbon (HC), Carbon monoxide (CO) due to the use of traditional and fossil fuels in Vietnam in the year 1995 and for selected years in the future in two typical scenarios, i.e. low and high scenarios. The emission of the different air pollutants are presented at disaggregated levels for major economic sectors, sub-sectors, end-uses by fuel types.
