Abstract | Nepal government declared ‘Year 2020’ as tourism year in May 2018 with the aim of bringing 2 million tourists. Nepal being still in the verge of developing phase and lacking enough infrastructure in all sectors including tourism is making everyone skeptical about the success of Visit Nepal 2020 campaign. So, this paper primarily tries to analyze whether accommodation capacity of Nepalese tourism sector can shelter 2 million tourists or not. Secondarily, it seeks to know the tourists’ experience and satisfaction regarding the existing accommodation facilities in Nepal. Both the primary and secondary data were used for the data interpretation and analysis. Under primary data analysis, survey research design was chosen. The study found that official (registered) accommodation facilities of Nepal do not possess capacity to accommodate 2 million tourists officially. Especially, in times of peak months where tourist flows are high, there would exist huge demand and official supply gap. The required increase of accommodation facilities to meet the peak demand is about 70% of 2018’s capacity in two years. Effect of season tourism in accommodation facilities is real and existence of non-registered facilities have been compensating the excess demand of peak periods over the years. Furthermore, well presence of accommodation facilities in city areas are found whereas rural areas are deprived of basic facilities. Lastly, Tourists satisfaction level on overall facilities and service qualities are average which is varied based on destination and they urge to improve and strengthen the whole accommodation facilities for the betterment of overall tourism sector. |
