Abstract | This study was carried out to determine suitable Solid Waste Management (SWM) method for hospitals in Hanoi city. The data were collected by field observation, site visits, and interviews and then analyzed using statistical methods. Analyzing the collected samples to determine the physical composition of hospital wastes, the study provided results in the better quantity estimation of wastes in hospitals, that do not have contracts with URENCO (Hanoi Urban Environmental Company). With the poor knowledge of people, limited finance investment and low technology in waste management, there is a need to introduce appropriate policy, administrative renovation, to improve environmental education for the staff in hospitals and spread the basis of waste management to the people using public information means and promote people's participation in the waste management process. The study indicated that, the hospital waste separation at the sources for treatment is a mandatory step to reduce the danger of diseases transmission. The construction of a centralized incinerator for hospitals wastes is very necessary in the treatment of infectious wastes. This is impossible to solve this problem without the investment and support from the Government. |
