Abstract | Today, International Joint Ventures (IJVs) are widely known as an important tool for many developing countries to take in order to boost their economies. International Joint Ventures are usually taken in the form of a joint venture contract between a Multi-national Corporation and a local partner. Multi-national Corporations bring capital, technology, and new ways of doing things while host country partners contribute their knowledge of local market to the International Joint Venture~. This is also the case for Vietnam when it opened the door to the outside world: International Joint Ventures have increasingly been considered as best form of attracting Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) to develop the economy after so many years of wars and fighting. So far, there have been too many studies on International Joint Ventures conducted. Yet, none of them was concentrated on IJV financial management issues which still possess problems that need to be dealt with. This is also true for Hong Kong Vietnam International Joint Ventures in which Hong Kong investors are ranked as a second largest in terms of investments that have ever been made in Vietnam. Therefore, this research study is carried out mainly based on the two case studies on Hong Kong Vietnam International Joint Ventures which are located in the province of Thua Thien Hue. Data for the research were taken various sources. Questionnaires were designed so as to make direct interviews to the Board of Directors. Based on the analysis of the cases, conclusions and recommendations for both partners in the Joint Ventures are drawn so that they could improve operation, making IJV a success. |
