AbstractDecision Support System to Improve Road Safety in Thailand is meant to improve road safety information through analysis and integration of accident spatial data and road spatial data. It aims to not only integrate accident data with geometrically wrong-design road section, so that dangerous locations can be fixed based on engineering design, but also prioritize high accident location through crash rate. With cooperation from Thai Department of Rural Road; accident data, Annual average daily trips(AADT), road center line and road-side object data are retrieved in shape file format from ARMs and Road Mapping System(RMS). ARMs’ purpose is to record accident data and numerical road data such as AADT. RMS is a recently developed software. RMS records road data from running a car with 360 degree cameras. Later on, those pictures are sent for determining road side objects. Due to this new system, Automatic geometric analysis from road data is possible. Hence this research is a pioneer to road geometric analysis in Thailand. This research has succeed in determining surrounding road-side objects, accident around specific locations and geometric analysis of bridge section. Consequently, it is possible to identify missing roadside objects according to sections of the roads. However, due to lack of enough accident record, instead of black spot approach, route approach is taken for accident analysis. From every DRR roads, 21 roads had more than three accidents. There are three main key finding from this research. Firstly, three-year accident data is not enough to conduct accident analysis with black spot approach on bridge and intersection. Since there are only two bridges and five intersections those have record of an accident as a result of analysis. Secondly, as a result from road approach in accident analysis; both frequency and percentage of common characteristics of accident must be considered, in order to improve road safety efficiently. Lastly, high AADT does not mean the road is dangerous. This fact is proven by the top five high crash rate roads are not the roads those have top-five AADT. On the other hand, there is some bugs in bridge geometric analysis. However it is the only one available for RMS, so it is considered as the most reliable one. The main reason why DRRs consultant could not come up with geometric analysis is due to lack of understanding engineering design and creativity in transferring engineering design to computer language. Therefore in order to improve road safety information system, government are encourage to focus on educating programmers or engineering to develop well understanding in concept of road safety, engineering design and GIS database.
