AbstractThe comparison between concrete’s compressive strength, drying shrinkage and water absorption of the normal concrete specimen (0% nano-silica particles in concrete mixture) and the nano-silica mixed concrete specimen (with addition of 1%, 2%, 3% and 4% of nano-silica particles as a replacement of cement proportion in the concrete mixtures) were investigated. Furthermore, the optimum percentages of nano-silica (i.e., 1%, 2%, 3% and 4%) particles in the concrete mixtures were determined from the results obtained. According to the results, the compressive strength of the control concrete specimen seemed to be higher than most of the nano-silica mixed concrete specimen (except at the concrete specimen containing 2% of nano-silica in the mixture where the results are very much similar), however, the differences is not significant. For water absorption, the absorption rate of the control concrete specimen seemed to be lesser than all nano-silica mixed concrete specimen, however; the differences is again not very significant. Whereas, for drying shrinkage test all the nano-silica mixed specimen significantly showed lower shrinkage value than the control specimen. Looking at the results it identified that the concrete specimen contain 2% of nano-silica in the mixture showed the best results for all the tests compared to the other nano-silica mixed specimen (i.e., specimen containing 1%, 3% and 4% of nano-silica in the mixture)
