Abstract | The demand placed on the profound knowledge of propagation phenomena and powerful simulation models will further increase simultaneously with the evolution of wireless personal communication systems. Improved deterministic propagation models have to be developed which make the efficient utilization of the geographical information and identification of dominant propagation paths and their losses. This paper presents a ray tracing technique to predict path loss and delay spread in buildings. Ray directions at the transmitter have been found by using the concept of geodesic domes. Line of sight, specular reflections and transmissions, non specular diffractions have been included in the propagation model. This method has shown that accurate impulse response, path loss, and delay spread prediction in buildings are possible using site-specific information. Modeling refinements are still needed to accelerate the performance as well as to improve the accuracy of the tool. With such a propagation prediction tool, personal communication systems could be designed and installed more rapidly and economically than if measurements were performed for each building |
