AbstractMost of existing adaptive CAC methods can not guarantee the QoS when the network utilization is high. Therefore, this thesis is studied for improving the CAC method to achieve an optimum trade-off between high network utilization and high quality of service (QoS) for all accepted connections by creating the proposed CAC method. The combined convolution and traffic measurement methods are used to achieve this purpose. This proposed CAC method provides two cell loss rate classes, and requires only the declaration of a new connection type and peak cell rate of each new connection type as a traffic parameters. The combination of four traffic types (e.g. voice source(Constant Bit Rate), voice source(On-Ofl), data source and video source) is used to be the offered traffic in this thesis. Simulation results show that the cell loss rate for both high priority and low priority classes of this proposed method are better than those of the Saito' s method under high and low offered traffic load situation when the throughput of both methods is almost the same. The higher throughput can be obtained by this proposed CAC method when the smooth factor in each traffic type is changed to the appropriate values.
